Alpaca Clothing – vital care tips to follow
You have just invested in some beautiful alpaca clothing that is soft, warm and luxurious to wear. Do you want to be sure that your alpaca clothing will wear well and continue to look fabulous for many years to come?
Then follow these tips for the continued enjoyment of your Alpaca garment:
Read the label
Always read the care label attached to your garment. You will find instructions on how to clean and care for that particular piece of clothing. Follow these instructions to ensure that your Alpaca clothing always looks its best.
Washing
Only hand wash your Alpaca knitted garments in lukewarm water and a gentle detergent designed for woolens. If you can find a eucalyptus wool wash, then opt for that. Gently squeeze the suds through the garment to release dirt. If it is particularly soiled or stained, you can leave it to soak for no more than 20 to 30 minutes. Gently agitate the water and squeeze the garment a couple of times. Never rub the fibers as this will lead to pilling and stretching.
Drain the water, and squeeze out some of the excess. Fill the tub with clean, lukewarm water. Squeeze the fabric again to release the detergent. Repeat the rinse until all traces of detergent are gone, and the water stays clear.
Squeeze out excess water and carefully lift the garment from the tub, supporting it from underneath to prevent stretching. Have a towel ready and roll the garment loosely in the towel to remove more of the excess water.
Lay the garment flat, preferably on a clothes airier, making sure it is well supported. Allow it to air-dry away from direct sunlight and artificial heat. Turn the garment over to speed up the drying process. Store Alpaca clothing loosely folded or hanging carefully in a well-aired place.
By following these care tips, your Alpaca clothing will keep its shape and softness, and you will be wearing and enjoying this fabulous fiber for a long time to come.
